Broomhill
Traditionally one of Sheffield's most successful neighbourhoods with its vibrant shopping area, Broomhill is also a conservation area. The neighbourhood is located just a mile west of the city centre.
Home to major Hospitals and to Sheffield University, Broomhill also has in its midst the newly refurbished Botanical Gardens. Neighbouring Weston Park and Museum have just completed a major lottery-funded refurbishment programme.
Students make up a major part of the community, especially during term time, exerting a unique pressure on the local housing stock, particularly in terms of private rented accommodation.
The A57 Glossop Road runs through Broomhill giving rise to major concerns regarding traffic management and pedestrian safety. Work on the S10 corridor will result in improvements to traffic flow, complemented by a residents' parking scheme.
The area, though green, has limited green and accessible public space though there may be opportunities within the ground of St Marks Church and King Edward’s school. Proposals to run the Supertram to Broomhill have now been shelved.
