Brightside

Outline map of Sheffield neighbourhood boundaries with the Brightside neighbourhood highlighted.
The Brightside/Grimesthorpe neighbourhood is located on the southeast side of Wincobank Hill. It is a mostly residential area with an industrial fringe along the Don Valley transport corridor and Meadowhall where environmental quality is poor.

There is an interesting mixture of housing types, from Victorian terraces to very recent developments of owner-occupied houses. The area has no natural neighbourhood centres, or landmark buildings, and amenities are scattered across the hillside.

There is a wide range of residential types within the area, reflecting socio-economic variations. The area has no natural neighbourhood centres, as a result of topography and the proximity of the area to Meadowhall.

Wincobank Hill and Woods, with its iron age fort, is a valued local asset but has suffered in the past from the activities of illegal motorcyclists and off-road vehicles. Recent improved access controls are helping to prevent anti-social use.

A neighbourhood strategy plan for Brightside/ Grimesthorpe is being developed through the Housing Market Renewal North Area Development Framework planning process. A new Childrens Centre hub is being developed at Brightside Infant School.
