Base Green, lying within the Birley Ward, has a population of approximately 4,000 people, living in mainly Council-owned tenanted properties managed by Sheffield Homes.

Many of the privately owned houses in the area are former Council homes, purchased under the 'Right-to-Buy' scheme.

The area is bounded on the west by the A6102 Ridgeway Road, Hollinsend Road in the north and White Lane to the south.

The area has a small shopping area with an outlying Housing Office. There is limited open space provision at Seagreave and Jaunty Park to the north-east.

The area has an active Tenants and Residents Association.
