Sheffield Neighbourhood Profiles
The Sheffield Neighbourhood Information System (SNIS) is a tool which lets us look at Sheffield's 100 neighbourhoods in detail. It contains lots of data, grouped in themes (or domains), and describes the features of each neighbourhood. It also allows us to compare neighbourhoods with each other, as well as find out city averages.
The seven themes used by the system are:
- economic activity
- education
- housing
- environment
- access to services
- health & social care
- community safety
They give a broad picture of what each neighbourhood is like. They also tell us how close a neighbourhood is to the Council's definition of a successful neighbourhood - "a place where people choose to live, where crime is low, where the environment is attractive, where the streets are clean and well maintained, where open spaces are used and enjoyed and there is a decent choice of homes and schools."
SNIS measures the success of each neighbourhood relative to other neighbourhoods and the city average.
