Small Grants Fund
Our Council Small Grants Fund is a simple, fast track grant scheme that aims to support the City Strategy by making available small amounts of money up to £4,000 to projects that want to make a difference in their local community. We are particularly keen to fund small voluntary, community and self-help projects run by and for local people that help to:
- Promote successful communities by reducing social exclusion and inequalities;
- Promote community cohesion;
- Promote community well-being and active citizenship.
We make this funding available in recognition of the benefits these groups bring to the city in breaking down barriers and promoting greater contact, understanding and mutual respect between people of different backgrounds, ages, cultures and abilities.
In your application you need to show that your project or group:
- Has been set up by local people;
- Involves at least 15-20 people;
- Aims to tackle a particular issue or need in your community including environmental issues;
- Provides a community benefit that is not purely social or hobby-related;
- Actively encourages volunteering;
- Has a co-operative, partnership or self help approach.
We will prioritise activities that:
- Benefit the welfare needs of people who are at risk of social exclusion because of age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability or sexuality;
- Promote integration and greater understanding between people of different backgrounds and cultures;
- Promote inter-generational activities that bring together older and younger people;
- Promote health and well-being;
- Encourage people to be active in their local communities by volunteering, shaping and influencing services and developing new skills.
