Community Support Grants Fund

The Community Support Grants Fund is for organisations working with European Union (EU) New Arrivals.

In collaboration with Northern Refugee Centre we are launching a Community Support Grants Fund sponsored by money from the government’s Migration Impact Fund.  This fund is aimed at supporting voluntary and community sector organisations to manage an increased demand on their activities or services from EU New Arrivals.

The fund of £52,000 will be distributed in one award round in January 2010.  The closing date for applications is 8 January 2009.  Decisions will be issued within four weeks of the closing date.  Applications may be made any time up to the closing date but you are encouraged to send in your application as soon as it is completed.  You may apply for a grant of up to £10,000 for either capital or revenue costs or both.  You may apply for funding to cover activities or services to be delivered beyond 31 March 2010.

Who can apply

To be eligible for a grant you must be able to demonstrate that:

  • your organisation has experienced pressure as the result of demand for activities or services from EU New Arrivals
  • the grant will result in a direct benefit to EU New Arrivals
  • the grant will provide additionality to existing services
  • the grant is not for costs already incurred.

You must be a voluntary or community sector organisation.  We are happy to consider applications made jointly with other voluntary sector organisations.  If you want to apply jointly with another organisation(s) please identify one organisation to make the application and act as the grant contact.  That organisation must meet all the qualifying conditions.

You must meet the following criteria:

  • be a constituted organisation with a management committee
  • produce independently examined or audited accounts in line with our requirements
  • have a track record of delivering services to EU New Arrivals
  • have a forward plan/business plan for your organisation for at least the next 12 months
  • have other sources of income in addition to the grant you are applying for, that ensure some level of sustainability for your organisation
  • have all appropriate insurances, policies and procedures in place including health and safety and equal opportunities
  • registered charities and limited companies must be in compliance with the appropriate regulatory bodies.

Note that when prioritising applications consideration will be given to:

  • the level of provision of activities or services for EU New Arrivals
  • the extent to which the grant will enable new and additional activities to be provided
  • the extent and regularity of the use of existing activities or services by EU New Arrivals.
