The Private Rented Project
The Private Rented Project is working to improve the standards of private rented accommodation in the Attercliffe, Burngreave, Darnall, Fir Vale, Pitsmoor and Tinsley areas of Sheffield.
What is it?
The Private Rented Project has been developed by Sheffield City Council’s Private Sector Housing department.
Our aim is to improve the quality of privately rented accommodation in your area through:
- Encouraging better management standards in privately rented housing
- Offering free practical advice and support to landlords and tenants
- Encouraging the physical improvement of housing
- Helping create a better quality environment
What do we do?
Landlords for Excellence course
Run in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, this extremely successful training programme is available to all landlords free of charge.

Landlord Information Sessions
We hold informal sessions aimed at supporting landlords that:
- Encourage the sharing of expertise, knowledge and experience of other landlords.
- Provide access to the free Landlords for Excellence course.
- Provide access to the Responsible Landlord Scheme and its range of benefits.
- Promotes working with the Private Rented Project Team.

How can we help?
Tenant Information Sessions
We hold informal sessions aimed at providing tenants with useful information about:
- Help with housing disrepair issues through drop in sessions
- Contact details for landlords who are members of the Responsible Landlord Scheme
- Direction to other specialist council services if required

Housing Aid
Our Housing Advice Service provides specialist advice on most housing issues.
Issues we can help with include:
- Security of tenure
- Local Housing Allowance
- Homelessness
- Possession proceedings
- Rehousing
We can advise you on your rights, and may help you take legal action if necessary.

Our Tenancy Relation Officers are based in Housing Aid and can provide advice and take legal action on unlawful eviction and harassment of private tenants.
