Choices not Barriers - Our Disabled People's Housing Strategy
These pages provide information about the Choices not Barriers Strategy for disabled people living in Sheffield and how you can get involved.
About the strategy
Choices not Barriers is our housing strategy for all disabled people, including those with physical, sensory and cognitive impairments, learning disabilities and mental health problems. It describes how we will work with our partners to deliver housing services and suitable housing to meet the needs of all disabled people in Sheffield. To make sure we achieve the aims and objectives of the strategy we have created an Action Plan which we regularly update.

Background to the strategy
This is the second Choices not Barriers Strategy the first strategy covered the period 2004 to 2007. Since then there has been a lot progress to make sure the needs and aspirations of disabled people are met in Sheffield, but there is still more to do.
In 2004 a report from Inclusive Living Sheffield suggested that we form a group to regularly talk to disabled people in Sheffield. Since then the Choices not Barriers Monitoring and Scrutiny Group have helped us to develop the most recent housing strategy and continue to help us review our approach to disabled people’s housing. We are now trying to build on our successes and attract new members to the group.
