Looking For A Home Or Needing To Move

These pages explain the different kinds of rented accommodation that are available.  Use the links on the left or at the bottom of this page to find out about them.  For information on the options available when purchasing a property, please visit the Affordable Housing section.

First of all though, it may be worth thinking 'do I really have to move?'
Sometimes people think they have to move when in fact they might be entitled to stay put.  You may be moving because you want to, but some people feel they have to move because:

  • They have received a notice to leave from their landlord, are in arrears with their mortgage, secured loan or rent or they have been told they are going to be taken to Court by their landlord or lender.

  • Their property is in a poor state of repair

  • Their relationship with their partner has ended, or they are concerned for their safety because of their partner's behaviour

Many people have legal rights to remain where they are, or to get repairs done, or rights when their relationship ends  – it is always worth checking your position before you decide you need to move. Housing Aid may be able to help prevent you from losing your home or needing to move Sheffield Housing Aid has more information on your rights.
