Homeless Assessment

A Homeless Assessment will only be carried out when all attempts to prevent homelessness or to find you alternative accommodation have been considered and failed.
Housing Solutions Officers will carry out the assessment to establish if the Local Authority owes you and /or your household a duty. This will involve an interview where the following points will be considered:
- Eligibility
- Homelessness
- Priority need
- Intentionality
- Local Connection
Where investigations are ongoing, the Local Authority may have a duty to provide you with temporary accommodation where no other accommodation is available. Temporary accommodation could be in bed and breakfast or hostel accommodation. As temporary accommodation is not always an ideal option, we do encourage you to make your own arrangements whilst we are assessing your homeless situation. This does not affect the length of time it takes to make a decision, or the decision itself.

Private Rented Solutions

We may be able to help you access good quality accommodation in the private rented sector.
We liase with private landlords. Either we will arrange for you to view a property that we have available, or if you identify a suitable property yourself we will liase with the landlord on your behalf.
We can provide financial help to secure a private rented tenancy by providing you with a bond or a deposit of rent in advance.
We can also help you to apply for Housing Benefit, Discretionary Housing Payment, Community Care Grant and other finances.
