'Home Truths' consultation about the housing market

Home truths logo
There have been major changes in the housing market in the last two years. House prices have fallen. Property sales and house building are at rock-bottom levels. Repossessions and mortgage deposits are on the increase. We want to better understand these changes, particularly what they mean for people in Sheffield.

What is ‘Home Truths’?

‘Home Truths’ is our consultation campaign to talk directly to Sheffield people about the housing market, what issues or concerns they have, and how we can best work to support them.

By talking to residents we'll better understand their views about the housing market, what types of decisions they make about their housing, and what issues or concerns they have. This all helps us make better housing policies to better help people.

How are we doing it?

We're working jointly with researchers from Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) on this project. These researchers are experts in the housing market and carrying out the type of consultation we are doing. Also, enlisting the help of an external organisation helps make sure the findings from the consultation are objective and reliable.

Progress

The public consultation stage of the project is now complete. The researchers from SHU have held focus groups and carried out in-depth interviews with residents in a range of housing circumstances from across Sheffield. Several hundred residents have also taken part in our web survey, which has now closed. Thank you to everyone that has taken part in this research.

We are now completing the final stages of the research, and we will publish our findings in January 2010. The report will be available on this webpage.
