Renewable Energy - Grants
Below are the two main grants available for renewable energy projects.
Low Carbon Buildings Programme
The government’s Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP) provides grants for microgeneration technologies for householders, community organisations, schools, the public sector and businesses. The current forecast end date for the Programme is April 2011, up to the introduction of Feed-in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive, but the Programme has changed several times so please refer to the LCBP website to check the latest details. This web page also includes the authorised installers approved by the programme.
Both phases of the programme cover a number of technologies, these include:
- Solar photovoltaics
- Wind turbines
- Small hydro
- Solar thermal hot water
- Ground/water/air source heat pumps
- Bio-energy
- MicroCHP (combined heat and power)
Phase 1
Phase 1 is open to householders only. The grant levels vary for each technology, and can be found on the LCBP webpage. This also has information about how to apply for the programme.
There are a number of energy efficiency measures that you must undertake before you are eligible to apply for a grant. These measures will ensure that you are minimising your energy requirements and are as follows:
- A minimum of 270mm of loft insulation.
- Installed cavity wall insulation (if you have cavity walls).
- Using low energy light bulbs in all appropriate light fittings.
- Installed basic controls for your heating system to include a room thermostat and a programmer or timer.
Phase 2
This is open to charitable organisations, community groups and the public sector. For more information please visit the Low Carbon Buildings Programme Phase 2 website.
Community Sustainable Energy Programme
Community Sustainable Energy Programme (CSEP) - is an open grants programme for community-based organisations for the installation of microgeneration technologies, run by BRE as an award partner of the Big Lottery Fund, on a first-come first-served basis until all funds are spent. For more information about the Community Sustainable Energy Programme please visit the CSEP website.
