Free Insulation Scheme

We're offering free loft and cavity wall insulation for all homeowners and private tenants on a ward by ward basis, as well fast tracking those people who need it most across Sheffield. We aim to cover the whole city, ward by ward, street by street over the next few years, subject to funding.
Since the scheme started in April 2009 we've signed up around 17,500 households across Sheffield. Working with Eaga Insulation, the only company selected to work on this scheme, we've identified or installed 2953 cavity walls and 8475 loft spaces so far. Please see the links below to find out more
Free Insulation Scheme moves to Gleadless Valley ward
We're currently offering the scheme to all homeowners and private tenants living in Gleadless Valley ward (which includes Heeley, Meersbrook, Herdings, Hemsworth and parts of Gleadless Town End, Lowfield and Beauchief)
We are also continuing to insulate properties in the following wards:
- Arbourthorne
- Darnall
- Hillsborough
- Manor Castle
- Southey
- Stocksbridge and Upper Don
- Walkley
Priority customers
We are also offering the scheme to thousands of customers who are aged 70 or over or on qualifying benefits now, wherever they live in Sheffield. Find out if you are eligible to join the scheme before it moves to your ward.
For your piece of mind
Our scheme is the only one in Sheffield which offers totally “free insulation”. We will not ask you for any payments or any of your bank details. Please be aware that we will never ask you to pay anything towards the cost of insulating your home, or for any extra work that may be needed like putting up scaffolding or installing a loft hatch.
Our Energy Advisors will be wearing distinctive red and black Sheffield City Council uniforms and carry I.D. badges. Unless you have made a specific appointment, they will only be calling between 9am -6pm. You can view a team structure at the bottom of this page.
Eaga Insulation are the only contractor we've appointed to work on this scheme, and they do not sub contract to any other insulation company. Eaga Insulation will not cold call, they will only visit properties once they have contacted you to make an appointment.
Please be aware
A number of residents, living in the Stocksbridge and Deepcar area of the city, have contacted us to tell us their concerns about insulation companies calling at their home and saying that they are:
- Working with us and our contractor Eaga Insulation, on our Free Insulation Scheme
- Asking residents to sign up there and then or miss out on a “special discounted offer”
If you are contacted by any other company claiming to work for us, or if you are at all unsure about the identity of the caller, please ask for their I.D. number on the reverse of their identity card. Council Tenants
Council properties will receive loft and cavity wall insulation under the decent homes programme which is managed by Sheffield Homes. If you do not have loft and cavity wall insulation please contact your Decent Homes team for further information.
Housing Association Tenants
Unfortunately, you won't be covered by this scheme. Please contact your landlord if you have any insulation queries.
