Housing Energy Efficiency Information

Heat loss house
Improving energy efficiency is about enhancing the quality of life for people today and for future generations. It can help to reduce fuel bills, prevent health problems related to cold and damp housing and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Sheffield City Council is committed to promoting energy efficiency and reducing fuel poverty in the city. We are doing this by working with other organisations such as the health sector, community groups, energy companies and different parts of the local authority.

These website pages give helpful information, much of it from the Energy Saving Trust (This website opens in a new window), on how you can improve energy efficiency in your home.

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) also provide an animated 'Best Practise' house, where you can see what areas of a huse can be improved. To view this webpage, click here.

South Yorkshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (SYEEAC)
The South Yorkshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre is independently operated by Barnsley MBC, Doncaster MBC, Rotherham MBC and Sheffield CC and is partly funded by the Government’s Energy Saving Trust.

It offers free, impartial advice to householders to help them make energy-saving improvements in their homes: saving them money and at the same time cutting carbon dioxide emissions.

It also offers free home energy checks - tailored reports with energy efficiency recommendations for your home, their cost and details of the savings you could make.
In addition to this it runs the Save 'n' Warm grant scheme. All householders living within Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield who are on qualifying benefits can apply for this scheme.

To contact the SYEEAC or to register your interest in Save n Warm:

  • Call the SYEEAC on freephone 0800 512 012

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) can provide you with a D.I.Y. Home Energy Check Questionnaire – simply fill out the questionnaire & EST will send you with a personalised report with recommendations for your home, and costs & details of the savings you could make.
