Respect Action Area
Sheffield is now a ‘Respect Action Area’, which means the City is a leading light in pushing forward the Respect programme. The Government were impressed by Sheffield’s strong track record in tackling anti-social behaviour, willingness and capacity to do more and have asked the city to lead the way on:
- Family intervention projects to tackle nuisance neighbours
- More parenting classes for parents struggling with troublesome children
- Face the People sessions where the police, local authorities and others can be accountable to their local public
- Keep up relentless action to tackle anti-social behaviour by using the full range of tools and powers available
- Using the Respect Housing Standard to prevent and deal with any problems in social housing.
The Respect drive is a cross-Government strategy to tackle bad behaviour and nurture good - and so help create the modern culture of respect. It is about central government, local agencies, local communities and ultimately every citizen working together to build a society in which we can respect one another – where anti-social behaviour is rare and tackled effectively, and communities can live in peace together.
