Your Council Tax

 

Council Tax Benefit is paid based on the weekly amount of Council Tax you have to pay. It is awarded for the entire financial year until the following April.

 

If you do not get a separate bill for Council Tax you cannot get Council Tax benefit.

 

If the level of your income or capital is too high to get Council Tax Benefit, but you share your home with other non-dependant adults and you do not have a partner (or either you or your partner do not count for Council Tax purposes), you could get up to 25% off your bill if the non-dependants sharing your home are on a low income.  This is called Second Adult Rebate.

You may also be eligible for certain discounts to help with paying Council Tax on your home.
