About the Area
The Park and Heeley Area lies immediately to the south east of Sheffield city centre and is one of the smallest corporate areas covering 7km2. The area is predominately mixed residential with a diversity of housing, types and housing tenors. The businesses and retail developments are clustered along the main boundary routes of City Road to the North and Queens Road/Chesterfield Road in the West.
Like many inner city areas of Sheffield, Park & Heeley faces all the challenges caused by high levels of social, economic, health and environmental disadvantage. According to the index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) the area is ranked within the 10% most deprived nationally and within the 5% most deprived in the Sheffield area.
Several conservation area, woods, open spaces and important aspects of the city’s heritage can be found here. The Sheaf River runs through part of Heeley and the Meersbrook once marked an ancient England boundary, although these waterways are not always readily visible being hidden by industrial developments and culverts. Bishop House is Sheffield’s oldest timber frame building and a small museum. The super tram runs along Park Grange Road, City Road to Manor Top and beyond.
