The area covered by the Netherthorpe, Hillsborough and Walkley Area Panel is made up of 5 wards - Hillsborough, Walkley, and parts of Stannington, Crookes and Broomhill wards. It lies to the north west of the City Centre. Much of the area is densely populated, with approximately 57,000 people living within 25,000 households, almost one eighth of the total population of Sheffield.

  

In terms of housing there is a mix across the area with predominantly social rented housing in Netherthorpe, Upperthorpe and Langsett, significant areas of council housing in Wisewood, Stannington and Winn Gardens, mostly private older housing in Walkley and Hillsborough and then an area of more affluent suburban development overlooking the Rivelin Valley. There is a high student population in Crookes and Walkley.

 

The area contains a number of shopping centres including those at Crookes, Walkley and Hillsborough.
