The Manor, Castle, Woodthorpe Area Action area lies directly to the east and south east of the city centre.  The area contains almost all of the Manor and Castle wards and part of Intake ward.

 

The area's central boundary runs behind Sheffield Railway Station and Park Square.  From the centre, the boundary roughly follows the Sheffield Parkway, the Mosborough Parkway, Richmond Road to Manor Top and down City Road and Granville Road to the valley bottom.  The area's most striking physical feature is Skye Edge.

 

Home to around 27,700 people in 12,700 households, the Manor, Castle, Woodthorpe area is predominantly residential with large council estates found at Manor, Manor Park and Wybourn as well as the Grade II listed Park Hill Flats.  Identifiable neighbourhoods in the area include, Manor, Manor Park, Manor Top, Park Hill, Woodthorpe and Wybourn.

 

The area and it's residents experience some of the highest levels of deprivation in Sheffield, although many years of regeneration activity, particularly with respect to economy / employment and the area's housing stock has made a significant impact.  A particular feature of regeneration activity in the area is the Manor Castle Developemnt Trust (MCDT).  The Trust, often held up as one of the country's most successful, has had a key role in the physical, social and economic regeneration of the area.  Also significant are local forums, often supported by either MCDT or the Area Panel.  The Manor Assembly, Park Community Action, Woodthorpe Development Trust and Wybourn & Skye Edge Action Group all contribute to community engagement and area planning.
