Issues, Actions and Plans

The following are important issues in the Darnall Area Panel area.  At the bottom of the page you will find downloadable copies of the panel's plans.

Environment

To ensure our neighbourhoods and green spaces are safe, well maintained, attractive and sustainable.  We do this by providing Neighbourhood Renewal Funding (NRF) to various projects such as the Darnall Greenspaces Project and the Community Forestry Project. We also invest in Improving the local Street Scene for example the Street Carers Project and Bring Out Your Rubbish Days.

Community Safety

The panel has assisted with various accident reduction schemes, as part of the Local Transport Plan.  The Staniforth Road accident scheme was implemented last year whilst the Retford Road Traffic Calming Scheme is now underway.  The panel has a Small Highways budget which is to promote accessibility for pedestrians and cyclist.  The panel assists the Safer Neighbourhood Team in tackling priorities for the area which have been identified as: - Community cohesion, car crime, anti-social behaviour, and motorcycle nuisance.

Children & Young People

We are working with the 0-19 Darnall Partnership to ensure that provision of activities and events for young people is publicised and well co-ordinated.  We aim to support all the work done for children and young people by all Voluntary and Community groups.
The Darnall Children’s Centre is a major project for the area and the building is due to be complete in February 2008.  The Centre services will continue to be provided based on the themes of child and family health, family support, adult community learning, advice and guidance and employment support.

Regeneration and Social Inclusion

Several housing developments are under way in Darnall and Handsworth.  An arrangement is made between Sheffield City Council (SCC) and the developers whereby the developers contribute to enhance greenspaces in the area.  As a result of this investment will be put into Mather Road recreational ground, Darnall Community park and Phillmore park is planned as a result of this.

Health & Well-being

This priority has been introduced this year to reflect the Enhanced Public Health Programmes which is being developed in Darnall and Tinsley.

Communication

We aim to keep members of the public well informed through the organisation of public meetings which are held every two months plus additional meetings when needed.  We produce a monthly e-brief which goes to local organisations and we will be producing a newsletter available to the public from June 2007.
