Welcome to the Darnall homepage.  The area covers the following neighbourhoods.

Darnall lies to the north east of the city centre.  Largely comprising the ward of Darnall the roughly triangular area also takes in parts of Manor and Castle wards.  To the northeast, the area is bounded by Rotherham, the western boundary lies along the lower Don valley and the southern boundary broadly follows the Sheffield Parkway. 

 

Around 23,000 people live in the area, which has undergone great changes over the past 3 decades.  The area has a diverse population, with a large minority ethnic population, including many second and third generation families. 

 

Economically the area, over recent years, has seen a fundamental change in its local economy – the emergence of Meadowhall and the retail park; the Don Valley Stadium, the Arena, Centretainment and the Ice Centre as well as tertiary industries associated with communications and new technologies – especially customer contact centres. The area is also known for Sheffield’s traditional manufacturing heart, and there is still evidence of this historical base (Tinsley Wire and Outo Kumpu, formerly Avesta Polarit) Three areas of prime development – near the airport (Sheffield Business Park) around Parkway markets and the former Orgreave/ Waverley site – fall in or near the Darnall area, and are critical for the success of the Objective 1 programme to address local poverty.
