Green Homes - Environmental Sustainability Information
Environmental Sustainability involves reducing the long-term impact our lives have on the environment. There are a number of ways of achieving this including being energy efficient, using renewable energy and introducing sustainable building to all new developments.
Sheffield Affordable Warmth Initiative - Free Insulation
We are offering free insulation for 64,000 homes in an ambitious £10.5 million initiative to cut fuel poverty and reduce the city’s carbon footprint. For more information, see the Sheffield Insulation page.
Cheap insulation for your home!
Cheap insulation is available for everyone in Sheffield. If you're over 70 or on a qualifying benefit it might be free! For more information on the scheme see our Save 'N' Warm page.
Discounts on Central Heating
If you are aged 60 or over and own your home or rent it from a private landlord then you may be eligible for a grant of up to £300 off the cost of the repair or the installation of a heating system through the Governments Warm Front scheme.
For more information on this scheme call Warm Front free on 0800 316 6017 or look at our Warm Front pages.
Energy Efficiency
Improving energy efficiency is about enhancing the quality of life for people today and for future generations. Energy efficiency can help to reduce fuel bills, prevent health problems related to cold and damp housing and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Find out more information on energy efficiency.

Renewable Energy
Renewable energy is power that is produced from sources that are mainly infinite, e.g. wind or sun. This can help us reduce our carbon dioxide emissions. Find out more information on renewable energy.
Sustainable Housing
Sustainable Housing is an important part of environmental sustainability. Housing releases 50% of all carbon that we use. By building our houses more efficiently and in a sustainable way we can make healthier homes for the future. Find out more about sustainable housing.
Affordable Warmth
We are committed to promoting energy efficiency and reducing fuel poverty in the city. We are doing this by working with other organisations such as the health sector and community groups. Find out more information on affordable warmth.
