Green Bins

Garden waste being collected in green bins
The Green Bin collection is a pilot scheme to collect “Green Waste”.  This is waste from gardens such a grass clippings, hedge and plant clippings. Leaves and cut flowers etc.  This is taking place in the South East of the City and 45,000 green bins have been distributed.

If you have a Green Bin this will be collected once every 2 weeks during the months March to November and once every 4 weeks during the months of December to February.  Your bin should be presented at the kerbside for collection by 7:00am (unless you receive an assisted collection).

The waste collected will be taken to various local composting facilities where it will be recycled into a valuable soil enhancer.

Calendars were issued with the bins to inform you of your future collection dates.  Any updates will be issued as required to inform you of your collection days.  Veolia have a facility whereby you can key in your postcode and check your collection days.  You will also be able to download a copy of your green bin calendar.  If you have any problems or queries please do not hesitate to contact Veolia on 0845 355 5515.

Over 7,000 tonnes per year of garden waste is collected via the green bin system.

Note: Please do NOT include food or kitchen waste, animal waste or any plastic packaging.
