Advice for the Public

The Health and Safety at Work Act applies mainly to work activities by employees and the safety of members of the public at work places. This includes shops, public buildings and leisure facilities. If you believe you are exposed to any serious risk as a member of the public posed by a work place you can contact us or the Health and Safety Executive (on 0114 2912300) for advice.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents offer a wealth of advice on general safety including safety in the home.

Please note: The Health Protection Service is the enforcing authority for premises where the main activity is offices, retail, wholesale, leisure, catering and residential accommodation. The Health and Safety Executive should be contacted direct if the issue relates to manufacturing, construction, agricultural, medical or local authority activity.

You can contact us in a number of ways and you can also complete our online advice or complaint forms.
