Food Complaints

If you feel the food you have purchased is unfit or seriously contaminated then you can contact us to make a complaint. Alternatively you can use the complaint form on our website. We can only investigate incdents that pose a serious public health risk.

All complaints will be treated in the strictest confidence.  Please note you must be willing to give evidence in court should a prosecution arise. The details of the complainant will not be disclosed without their prior permission. We will do our best to respond to the complaint within 5 working days, and you will be notified of the final outcome of the investigation.

If your complaint concerns food you have purchased and it is a perishable item then please store the food in a clean sealable container in the refrigerator, separate from other foods, until it is transferred to the Service for examination. Proof of purchase, if available, should also be kept. You will need to bring the food and it's packaging into our offices at Carbrook. If you cannot reach Carbrook we have an alternative reception point at Howden House.

 

Unfortunately we are unable to collect food from your home (unless you are elderly or disabled and cannot travel). In the case of minor complaints or quality issues we may refer you to approach the retailer or manufacturer directly.

Your concerns can be an important source of information to us. We are pleased if you let us know about any genuine hygiene problems in Sheffield's food establishments. We will need your contact details in case we need further information and to keep you informed. Names will not be disclosed and we do not normally investigate anonymous complaints.
