Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering

 
We run certified level 2 (or 'basic') food hygiene training courses. The aim is to ensure that everyone involved in a food business, from junior staff to senior management, possess skills and knowledge to prevent food poisoning. This can give you a more efficient and cost effective business.

The course is specifically aimed at all food handlers employed in production, manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, catering and retail outlets. The training will also benefit managers, supervisors and proprietors of food businesses.
 

Content


The candidate will develop an understanding of the basic principles of food hygiene, including:
 
  • Food poisoning and prevention
  • Bacteria
  • Personal Hygiene
  • Cross Contamination
  • Food Handling Techniques
  • Stock Control
  • Design and Structure of Premises
  • Cleaning Procedures
  • Pest Control
  • Up-to-date Legislation
  • Food safety management systems
 
The course duration is six hours usually split into two afternoons and there is a written examination at the end.

Qualifications

 
All successful candidates will receive a nationally accredited  Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering issued by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

Fees and Booking


The course fee is £65.00 per person, which covers all course materials, course handbook and examination costs. You can contact us to request a booking form or email us at healthprotection@sheffield.gov.uk.


Company Training


Block bookings can be made for between 10 and 25 candidates per course. We can be flexible in arranging the dates and venue to suit your individual needs. To arrange a block booking please call (0114) 273 5774 or (0114) 273 4638.
 

Courses in Other Languages

 
From time to time we are able to offer courses taught in Chinese, Urdu and Bengali. These are only available where the candidate has English language difficulties. If you are interested in a course in one of these languages then please call the above number.
 

Intermediate & Advanced Training (Levels 3 & 4)

 
The Health Protection Service does not currently offer any intermediate or advanced level training but the following organisations may be able to offer help with these courses:-
