Clinical Waste Collection

The Clinical Waste service which Sheffield offers its householders involves the safe collection and disposal of medical treatment waste.  The collection and disposal service is carried out by the Council’s waste contractor Veolia.

This service is free of charge.

The collection will normally be arranged via your district nurse or by the hospital as you return home.  In the event that you have not been put onto a service and you feel that you should be please mention it to your district nurse and ask to be referred to Veolia for a collection service.  Once Veolia are aware of your need for this service then they will issue you with a yellow sack and information on how to use it along with the day on which it will be collected.

A supply of sacks will be provided each week and these need to be securely sealed before being presented for collection.  These special yellow sacks should only be used for clinical waste such as dressings and infected waste.  Do not place clinical waste into domestic wheeled bins.

Veolia will call each week to collect your waste in the specially provided sacks.  It is necessary that these are left outside your front door or in an agreed place by 7:00am on the collection day.
