Information for NQTs
Sheffield welcomes applications from Newly Qualified Teachers
As an NQT you can count on the right kind of support and guidance from your colleagues in school and from Sheffield Local Authority. We are committed to providing the best possible support to you.
All newly qualified teachers are required to satisfactorily complete a statutory induction period. It is important to us that this is a good experience for you. We will support you to successfully complete your induction period and acquire Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). You will receive a Newly Qualified Teacher Handbook, which outlines details of induction, support, roles, responsibilities and the Children Service Authority structure.
The Sheffield Guarantee
You will benefit from our innovative strategy to support continuing professional development: The Sheffield Guarantee, developed in partnership by teachers and advisers and endorsed by the GTC and the DfES. You will be entitled to attend training and development courses, including conferences, networking events and development opportunities linked with Sheffield’s two universities that can lead to certificates, diplomas and higher degrees.
Support in School
Your school will provide you with an Induction Tutor who will have day-to-day responsibility for your induction programme. They will discuss your Career Entry and Development Profile (CEDP) with you at your first meeting. Together you will identify your strengths, as well as any gaps in your skills or areas where you lack experience. Together you will agree a plan for your personal development. Your progress will be reviewed and discussed with you throughout the year. An NQT Mentor/Support Teacher will provide advice, counselling and support on a regular basis.
