Graduate Teacher Programme for Schools

The Graduate Teacher Programme ( GTP) is a programme of on-the-job training allowing graduates to qualify as teachers while they work.
 
Training takes from three months to one school year full time, depending on the applicants previous teaching experience.
 
Schools can apply for funding to assist them with the scheme. For more information please contact the GTP providers in Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University.
 
Key features of the scheme include the following:
 
  • Trainees will need to have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from the UK
 
  • Trainees will also need GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in mathematics and English. For primary teaching, candidates also need GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in science.
 
  • Trainees must be employed as unqualified teachers in the school
 
  • The school will pay a salary at the rate for an unquailfied teacher
 
  • The TDA can pay a grant of up to £13,500 to the school to assist with employment costs and up to £4,270 to cover training. Some places are available with training grant only where the school can meet the full employment cost and where trainees have experience.
