Support Staff Learning & Development

Our section is a team of dedicated learning & development professionals who work with schools to promote and support continuous professional development for all categories of school support staff. We aim to support career development and progression routes through skill based training courses and accreditation routes linked to national occupational standards.
 
The workforce Development Plan for support staff in schools maps out our intentions, aspirations and targets for delivery of training and continual professional development for school based support staff within Sheffield Children and Young People’s Directorate.
Our work includes:
 
  • Delivery of a range of training courses advertised in the City Achievement Brochure
  • Delivery of the Training & Development Agency ( TDA ) TDA introductory Modules for support staff not based in the classroom
  • Delivery of the TDA Induction Modules for Teaching Assistants & classroom based staff
  • Delivery of bespoke training courses in schools
  • Manage, broker and subsidise qualification courses, e.g. National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) III for Teaching Assistants, Vocational Qualification (VQ) level 2 and 3 and the Introductory Certificate in First Line Management accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) 
  • Manage the Higher Level Teaching Assistant  (HLTA) funding process for Sheffield schools.   
  • Supply schools with professional development portfolios
  • Development of the Sheffield Guarantee Framework (5th strand) for school support staff
