Find a school

The Direct.gov website has a useful school finder which quickly gives you the following information about any school in England:

  • Address
  • Telephone number
  • Headteacher’s name
  • Number of pupils
  • Most recent Ofsted report
  • A map showing the school’s location

School addresses, telephone numbers and Headteachers are also listed on the City Council’s downloadable schools list. If you require further information about an individual school, the City Council maintains a list of school website addresses.

Getting there

If you drive, or travel on foot, the AA website hosts a free route planner. The planner also provides an estimated journey time, though we suggest you err on the side of caution whenever calculating the duration of your journey.

For those of you who use public transport, Yorkshire Traveline’s journey planner calculates the easiest way to get from your home to the school at which you’ve been booked. Simply by keying in your home address and the name of the school, you will be given:

  • The time at which you need to leave your house in order to arrive at a specified time
  • The bus and/or trams you need to catch
  • The stops you need to catch them from
  • The time at which they depart from each stops
  • The duration of each step of your journey, including the time it takes to walk to your first and from your last stop

To ensure your bus isn’t running late, the Travel South Yorkshire site has a facility that gives you regularly updated arrival times for each bus service.

Schools Library Service

As a SESSA staff member you have access to the Schools Library Service. The service is based at the Bannerdale Centre on Carterknowle Road; you simply need to present your SESSA identity card as evidence of membership.

Online Teaching Resources

The virtual staffroom links to a wide range of online resources to assist staff in the delivery of their teaching or support work. Many of these resources are focussed on particular age or subject areas and can be accessed from the appropriate section of this site (Early Years, Primary, Secondary, Newly Qualified Teachers, Classroom Support).

The Times Education Supplement (TES) and the Teachernet sites, however, have a number of generic resources that are useful for anybody involved in a classroom setting, as well as study materials specifically designed for supply teachers.

You can also access additional resources by visiting the web pages of the Learning and Achievement Service.

Handover notes

The SESSA handover notes template can be downloaded using the attachments at the bottom of the page. We would ask all our teachers to use these forms when completing a booking.
