Transforming Learning

TLS Diagrammatic Representation

The Current Position

Sheffield has produced a Transforming Learning Strategy (TLS) by consulting with all schools and Chairs of Governors throughout the summer term (May - July 07). This strategy has led to the production of a Sheffield Learners Challenge that is currently being discussed through the Families of Schools to bring a consistent and cohesive approach to the focus of Learning and Raising standards.

TLS is represented in diagrammatic form as shown on the top left of this page. This shows the dynamic inter-relationship between environments for learning and the partnerships that need to be formed to support learning in its widest context. This is very much in line with the new direction taken by the Department for Children, Families and Schools and the creation of a Children and Young Peoples Directorate which stresses that education, health and wellbeing are essentially intertwined. Young people cannot focus on learning if they are hungry, frightened and unsupported and the Children’s Act of 2006 recognises this and encourages authorities to ensure compliance and Commissioning activities that will provide a joined up approach. In this way a safety net is being provided to ensure no child should be left behind or left unchallenged to reach their full potential.
