Whirlow Hall Farm

Whirlow Hall Farm is a hill farm on the edge of the city of Sheffield. We have a flock of 150 Sheep, a herd of 15 sucker cows, 20 sows, free range laying hen and seasonal Turkeys, as well as rabbits, ponies and goats. The farm grows wheat/barley, root crops, vegetable, soft fruit and fodder crops for livestock.

 

A sizeable area of the farm grassland is managed under the Countryside Stewardship scheme. There is a large network of footpaths around the farm, many are surfaced for wheelchair use. The farm also has an access trailer.

We have two residential units, an old farmhouse and a converted barn (suitable for groups with disabilities). Whirlow Hall Farm has its own education staff to support visiting groups. Whilst at the farm children are involved in farm jobs. There is easy access to all the livestock and poultry buildings along with special activity and audio-visual rooms. A wide variety of educational resources are available including videos about the farm and incubators to hire.

 

Charges

Day visits for Sheffield schools are free. Non Sheffield Children Service Authority groups (Brownies, private nurseries etc) we charge £1 a child, staff and helpers are free. In certain circumstances we may be able to reduce charges.

 

Bookings

Day visits are available all year round. Please phone the education office to make a booking or for more information.

 

There are ample hand washing and toilet facilities including wheelchair accessible toilets and toilets equipped with changing beds, lift hoist and showers.
