Thornbridge Outdoors

Thornbridge Outdoors is available to schools, youth groups and adult groups for residential and day use throughout the year. It is licensed with the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority and maintains high standards of health & safety and quality of service. It is situated in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, alongside the Monsal Trail and two miles from Bakewell with easy access to all that the Peak District has to offer. 55 acres of ground offer a variety of facilities and activities on site and you can book to 'do your own your thing' through to a fully tailored programme of activities.
 
Key facilities
 
  • Warm and comfortable bunk bed accommodation, with linen provided, mostly in four bedded rooms. Single Bedded rooms with tea making facilities for group leaders. Two buildings for groups of 29 and 32.
  • Sheltered and level campsite with all necessary equipment and indoor kitchen/dining area
  • Excellent kitchen for self-catering. Alternatively we can provide catering assistance or full catering with varied menu choice. Ample washrooms, hot showers and drying facilities.
  • Games room, 'Discovery' room, indoor climbing wall.
  • Specialist clothing and equipment are available when needed.
  • Centre minibuses and drivers for access to off site activities.
  • Onsite facilities include High and Low Rope Courses, Zipwire, Orienteering courses, Nature Trails, Mountain Bikes Trail, Nightline, pond and habitat study areas themed gardens, Problem Solving Tasks.
  • Off Site activities: climbing, caving, walking, and mounting biking on the doorstep. Many other activities within striking distance.
 
Programme and activities
 
  • Visiting Groups may be totally self contained or Centre staff can work alongside visiting staff offering specialist instruction in outdoor and environmental activities. Programmes are tailored to meet the needs of students whatever their age or ability, with National Curriculum requirements , to complement mainstream education or purely activity specific courses.
  • Adult training course are run in conjunction with national governing bodies including Mountain Leader, Walking Group Leader, Single pitch Award, Mountain bike Leader & Skills courses and REC first aid.
  • Thornbridge also offers a base for staff training days, either self-programmed or with full Centre support.
  • Advice is available to Sheffield schools planning their own adventure activities.
