National Year of Reading
This is the first of hopefully many items for the National Year of Reading (NYR) Sheffield schools website. We wanted to start by celebrating with you those schools that have been awarded the Sheffield Accreditation Award for the National Year of Reading. We know that many schools are actively involved in promoting and celebrating reading but unless we receive the pro forma back from you, we can’t arrange for your school to have the award.
These schools have been successful:
- Abbey Lane
- Abbeydale Primary
- Angram Bank
- Arbourthorne Primary
- Beck Primary
- Broomhill Infants
- Clifford C of E Infants
- Ecclesall Infant
- Emmaus Primary
- Greenlands Junior
- Hallam Primary
- Hinde House Primary
- Lound Primary
- Loxley Primary
- Lydgate Infant
- Rainbow Forge
- Reignhead Primary
- Sacred Heart Primary
- Southey Green Primary
- Woodthorpe Primary
- Coit Primary
We had a very successful launch at Meadowhall of NYR in Sheffield, with the Schools Library Service and Ian McMillan and Luke Goss. Children from many schools came along with local dignitaries and together with Ian composed a poem which we will put on the website later. We will be including links to various websites that we think might be useful to you.
We now have 73 schools signed up to Reading Connects, which is one of the criteria for being an accredited NYR school. Well done all of those schools. Reading Connects provides a wealth of information and resources for schools to develop reading.
