Hospital and Home Education Service

The Hospital and Home Education Service provides access to education for children with medical needs, anxious and withdrawn children (including school phobic) and pregnant schoolgirls, school age mothers and young parents. We provide a service both in hospitals and by outreach teaching.

We aim to minimise the disruption to the childrens' normal schooling, and to keep education alive in their lives. Pupil referrals come to us from Sheffield schools or the medical sector.

The Service provides:

  • Medical outreach teaching for children who are unable to attend school through illness or injury, either at home or at our Centre.

  • Support for young parents, including the expertise of a Specialist Learning Mentor and the provision of outreach teaching for the young mother during a period before and after the birth of the child.
