Free Early Learning for 3 and 4 Year Olds
Sheffield has been identified as a Pathfinder Authority to increase the free early learning for three and four year olds, ahead of the national roll out in 2010.
This means that in Sheffield, the free entitlement has increased from 12.5 hours to 15 hours per week and that these hours can be taken up more flexibly over a minimum of 3 days (38 weeks a year).
As part of the project, we are required to consult with parents about how they would use their additional hours and what models of flexibility they would prefer. The outcomes will be used to aid with planning the new entitlement for schools and early years providers.
An assessment of the demand for and supply of Free Early Learning (also known as Early Years Free Entitlement) has been completed.
