Funding the Free Entitlement on Take-Up
The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) require all Local Authorities (LA) to count and fund children in the maintained and Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) Sector in a consistent manner and according to the amount of provision they use by 2010-11 at the latest.
There are currently six LA’s working closely with the DCSF to develop this work and guidance will be issued to all LA’s sometime during the summer.
A paper was presented at Schools Forum in October recommending that the new single formula and participation led funding for the free entitlement be introduced from April 2010, this recommendation was approved.
