Supplementary/ Community Language Schools
There are about 40 Supplementary/Community Language Schools run by Minority Ethnic Communities in Sheffield.
Supplementary/Community Language Schools provide:
- Community language teaching
- Curriculum support/study support
- Extra-curricular self-esteem building work
- Alternative curriculum for excluded children
Membership groups:
- Association of Sheffield Community Language Schools (ASCLS):
Encompassing almost all the community language schools in the city.
- Burngreave Study Support Consortium:
A Group of 5 study support schools funded by Burngreave New Deal for Communities.
- Supplementary Schools Hub Group:
A group of nine schools supported by the Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) working towards support resources for all the supplementary schools and networking nationally to share good practices.
The Sheffield Hub is linked to four other Hubs: Manchester, Leicester, Kirklees and Bradford
There are overseas visits by one representative school from each city to share good practices in other countries.
