Aims of the Service:
The Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS) aims to raise the achievement of and equality of outcome for black and bilingual pupils in Sheffield schools and communities by:
- Raising standards of achievement for those minority ethnic groups who are under-achieving or at risk of under-achieving
- Meeting the particular needs of children and young people for whom English is an additional language
- Providing support to meet the educational needs of refugee and asylum seeker children and young people
- Increasing social cohesion between different cultural, religious and ethnic groups
- Enabling and empowering partners and stakeholders to focus mainstream resources on achieving equity in outcomes for BME children and young people
