Primary Capital Programme (PCP)

The purpose of this programme is to:

  • ensure primary schools are fully equipped for 21st Century learning, at the heart of the community, with children's services in reach of every family;

  • support national policy aims: raising standards, Every Child Matters, inclusion, diversity and responsiveness, extended services, personalisation;

  • rebuild, remodel or refurbish at least half of primary schools;

  • address deprivation nationally and in every authority and responding to population changes.

Sheffield City Council successfully bid for pathfinder status in 2006/07.  This has enabled us to design high quality exemplar projects, develop a medium term strategy and share good practice.

The funding has been initially secured for three years enabling us to tackle some of the most significant building issues across the primary estate.

Funding Secured

  • 2008/09   £6.5m
  • 2009/10  £5.9m
  • 2010/11  £7.2m

These schemes are seeking to transform the primary sector.

The first project will be at St Catherines and Pye Bank Schools in Burngreave.  This will address the shortage of primary places in the area.  Further projects will be identified through the Primary Places Group.

Capacity Planning & Development Service are managing this on behalf of Sheffield City Council and if you would like any further information on the programme please contact us on 0114 273 5815.
