Sure Start Children's Centres - an overview
What is a Children's Centre?
Sure Start Children’s Centres are a government initiative that give multi-agency support to families with children under 5, including those expecting a baby. They offer a range of services including access to integrated childcare and education, health and family support, help with finding jobs and training, drop-in sessions and groups. Children’s Centres bring services closer to families and put them all in one area, so it’s easier for them to get the services, advice, help and information they need all in one go.
Children's Centres are being developed and rolled out across Sheffield in 3 phases so that every community will have access to Children’s Centre services by 2010.
Phase 1 and 2
The first 13 Children’s Centres (Phase 1) are located where support is most needed, and the initiative has now been extended. In the second phase, a further 18 Children’s Centres have been developed, ensuring that all areas within the 30% most disadvantaged areas of the city have access to a Children’s Centre.
Phase 3
Phase 3 Children's Centre services are now being developed in the remaining areas of the city, and these are due to be rolled out between March 2008 and March 2010 so that all families with young children in Sheffield can easily access the services they need, to find out more visit the Phase 3 Children's Centre page.
