New and Additional Training

New and additional training courses are put on throughout the year according to demand.
Details of new courses are sent out to all Governors by email and with agenda packs for termly Governing Body meetings.  You can view or download the termly training update from the bottom of this page, when available.

Governors are asked to please be aware that notice of additional courses may be very short due to the last minute release of places on training courses organised by individual schools where sessions have been under-subscribed.

The Governor Support Team is offering a series of additional development sessions for governors on recruitment to headteacher and senior leadership positions in conjunction with Organisational Development and the Deputy Director responsible for Leadership, Learning and Development.  These sessions will take place during the 2009/10 financial year.  View or download details when available from the bottom of this page.

Online Training

We have purchased an Online Governor Training package which is free to Governors of all Sheffield schools who subscribe to the Governor Training Package.  Visit the Online Governor Training page for more information on the training modules currently available.

Governors of schools who do not subscribe to the Governor Training Package may also access the training, but will incur a charge.  Contact Kath Rangeley, Governor Training Officer, for more details on (0114) 250 6892 or email kathryn.rangeley@sheffield.gov.uk

Safer Recruitment Training

As of 31 January 2010, it will be a legal requirement for all school interviewing panels to contain at least one person who has done an accredited Safer Recruitment training course. In order to be compliant with this new legislation the Authority expects at least one governor from each school to have undertaken this course either through attendance at a workshop when available or via online training.

Safer Recruitment online training
Online safer recruitment training is available free of charge to all governors via the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC).  Visit the CWDC website  for more information, to register and to access e-learning resources. You no longer need the school’s password to log on.

Safer Recruitment training workshops
We are running workshops, open to both governors and school staff who are involved in school recruitment processes, particularly the interview stage.  Sessions are run by members of the Children and Young People's Service Organisational Development team, all of whom have been accredited by the National College of School Leadership to deliver this training.  Workshops will take place on 18 March, 20 April, 30 May and 8 June 2010.  More dates are likely to be added for Spring Term 2010.  Contact Scott Glover for further details on (0114) 2930924 or by email scott.glover@sheffield.gov.uk.

Please be aware that this course is NOT included in the Governor Training package and the fee to schools is £100 per delegate.  Please check with your Chair of Governors or Training Co-ordinator Governor before booking.
