Leadership Development and Succession Planning

A Model Policy on Leadership Development and Succession Planning was discussed with Governors in the Summer Term 2007.  We hope that all Governing Bodies will adopt the Policy, which you can view or download from the bottom of this page.

 

The National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services has published The Importance of Succession Planning, a useful guidance document on the recruitment of Headteachers and an interactive guide for Governors. Further information is available on the staff recruitment page.

The National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services has published a toolkit for Governors on models of leadership (PDF, 302KB) and feedback from a series of governor workshops on succession planning.  

 

The National College is also working with the National Co-ordinators Of Governor Services (NCOGS) and the National Governors' Association (NGA) to help governors with their plans for leadership succession. They have developed a set of specially created online resources.

 

The theme of the last annual Sheffield Governors' Conference in September 2009 was leadership and succession planning.  The speaker, Diane Heritage gave us lots of ideas to take back to our governing bodies. You can view or download her presentation and materials circulated at the conference from the bottom of this page.
