Data & Analysis Team Commissions
What The Data & Analysis Performance Team Offers
In addition to the standard reports that Data & Analysis Team (DAT) make available to schools and others, a commissioning service is offered which provides further information about pupil performance. Schools, areas or regeneration programmes. community organisations and other agencies may contact DAT to undertake analysis work that goes beyond the kind of data on the website. A charge is made for this service, currently £200 a day.
1. School Commissions
The two most popular school commissions, outlined below, concern analyses of pupil progress between one assessment point and another, and socio-economic studies of school catchment areas. If your school would like Data & Analysis to do some other data analysis work, please contact DAT or complete the briefing sheet attached below

Progress through Time Analysis
This is a study of pupil progress over time. Baseline-KS1, Baseline-Y3 NVR, KS1-KS2, KS2-KS3 and KS3-GCSE have all been subjects of this study. The principal objective of this study is to examine and compare the academic progress of particular cohorts of pupils within the school over time. The assumption is that the same pupils undertook the two assessments. Such a technique may offer further information about a school's performance than what is currently available.

Socio-economic Analysis of School Catchment Areas
This study, by making use of available socio-economic data about small areas of the city, enables comparisons of school catchment areas with similar free school meal rates. It can thus be established whether or not free school meals information accurately reflects the situation a school is in, and offers schools possibilities of reflecting on how particular social factors may impact on pupil achievement and progress. Using 2001 data about Income Support and Housing Benefit, and 1991 (2001 when available) Census information about the occupational profiles of areas and about higher educational qualifications, the polling districts and wards of the focus school are compared with schools with similar free school meal rates. Other contextual information (eg about the demographic profile of small areas) is also used where this is available.

Briefing Sheets
If headteachers wish to commission The Data & Analysis Team to produce either a progress or a socio-economic analysis report described above, please select the option you require below for a briefing sheet. This provides basic information about the content of each commission. If you are interested in pursuing a commission, before completing the briefing sheet, please call DAT (273 5800) who will be able to give you further information, in particular about timescale and cost. At this point, using the briefing sheet, complete the top box giving school and timetable details, complete the bottom box with the Headteacher confirmation, and fax to DAT(273 6114). Unless there is a problem, DAT will fax back confirmation of the commission, and proceed with the work. Click below on the relevant briefing sheet.

2. CSA and Other Commissions
Much of the work Data & Analysis undertakes is in response to data analysis requests from within or outside the CSA. However, there are no 'standard packages' for this work as there are for school commissions. Please contact DAT to discuss what you require.
