Joint Area Review
A message from Cllr Harry Harpham
Welcome to our website keeping you up-to-date with our Joint Area Review (JAR). We are doing an immense amount of work with children, young people and their families to make sure they remain safe and have the best possible opportunities in life.
Sheffield's Joint Area Review (JAR) report was published on 12 December 2006. This was a very thorough probing of the impact our services and strategies have on the health, safety, learning and employability of our young people.
The efforts of the local authority and our partner agencies are widely praised in the report and we are happy that we have demonstrated just how effective our work is on behalf of youngsters.
We are particularly pleased with our Outstanding grade for our 14-19 work with partners, which reflects the contribution children’s services are making to the regeneration of the city and its economic future. Our Learning for Life programmes provide over 2,500 work placements each week in specialist sites such as the Kier Construction Design Centre, and they are clearly making a difference to motivation, accreditation and job opportunities.
Cllr Harry Harpham
Lead Member and Chair of the Children and Young People 0-19+ Partnership Board
A message from Jonathan Crossley-Holland
This is a strong vote of confidence in our new approach to joining up and delivering services that are better matched to users’ needs through Sure Start and children’s centres, schools, health centres and training sites – all co-ordinated by our new Service Districts.
As with all such reports, we look at how we can improve further and our top priorities are to press on with raising the standards in all schools, making sure the most vulnerable are safe and in continually developing local services so that Sheffield families have the support they need, when they need it.
Jonathan Crossley-Holland
Executive Director Children and Young People's Directorate
