Statement of Internal Controls (Annual Governor Statement) and Best Value Statement

 

The Head of Corporate Resources has a statutory responsibility to ensure that adequate internal financial controls are in place across the whole of the Local Authority, including schools, and must sign an assurance that this is the case each year.

 

As part of Financial Management Standards in Schools schools have to complete a Statement of Internal Controls. This is designed to give confidence to parents, stakeholders and the Local Authority that the school's finances are properly controlled.

 

It is also a requirement of the Sheffield Scheme for Financing Schools for schools to complete and return a Statement of Internal Controls and Best Value Statement by 31st March.

 

To help schools we have incorporated the Statement of Internal Controls and Best Value Statement into one template.

 

 

A statement template is available at the bottom of the page for you to complete. Within the body of the template you will note that some text is in bold and coloured red; this is where you need to insert information appropriate to your school.

 

Before completing your statement you may find it helpful to complete the simple questionnaires that are available as downloadable documents at the bottom of this page. They have been prepared to help you identify any areas of weakness that you may have in your internal financial controls.
