Instrument Hire
The information below helps parents understand the process of hiring instruments for their child from the Sheffield Music Service (SMS).
Instruments can be hired to parents of children receiving instrumental tuition from the SMS. An instrument may be hired for up to a period of two years.
Cost of Hiring
- £25 per acedemic year and
- £20 deposit taken for violins and snare drums or
- £40 deposit taken for all other instruments
On the return of the instrument in satisfactory condition, the deposit will be refunded via a cheque. This process could take up to two weeks.
For parents wishing to request the hire of an instrument, please read the following:
- The SMS must receive a signed authorisation form from the SMS teacher who is to teaching your child.
- Instrumental lessons must have already being booked with SMS for your child to learn the instrument.
- Arrangements must be made by the hirer to obtain adequate and suitable insurance to cover the full replacement of the instrument if required.
- Schools can hire instruments on behalf of children but on the understanding that the school is responsible for damage or loss on a new for old basis whether the damage or loss occurs in the school, out of school or in the home of the pupil.
- Consumable items such as strings, reeds etc are the sole responsibility of the hirer.
Payment and Collection
Payments can be made via Credit or Debit Card. Cheques and Postal Orders are accepted and should be made payable to Sheffield City Council.
Collection of instruments and telephone queries can be made from the Instrument Stock Room, their hours of opening are:
- Monday 10.00 to 16.00
- Tuesday 14.00 to 18.00
- Friday 14.00 to 18.00 (during term time)
