Are changes ever made to the transport system?
The Children and Young People's Directorate has a responsibility to review transport networks periodically in order to ensure that they remain efficient and cost effective. Where do I get details of the Sheffield transport policy?
The City Council makes provision under the Education Act 1996 for free transport from home to school in certain specific circumstances. The DfES stresses the need for better information about SEN Transport and the importance of working in partnership with all players - schools, operators, other parts of the Children and Young People's Services, pupils, parents and escorts. The Children and Young People's Directorate provides comprehensive information about SEN transport for all clients and providers.

The SEN Code of Practice (2001) states that transport should only be recorded in Part 6 of the statement in 'exceptional circumstances where the child has particular transport needs'. (Code of Practice: 8.89)
The format and content of this policy complies with the DfES Good Practice Guidance on SEN Transport (2001).
A Home to School Transport Policy for Children with Special Educational Needs was issued in September 2003; the annex to this policy document describes the roles and responsibilities of interested parties.
