Specialist Services - Building schools for the future
The Authority's Learning Difficulties and Disabilities Strategy outlines an ambitious programme to reorganise, reconfigure and relocate most of its specialist SEN schooling, including the Pupil Referral Service. Most of the capital funding is through the Government's Building Schools for the Future Programme. John Irwin has been seconded, for two years, from his substantive role as Headteacher at Talbot School. During that time the intention is to implement the significant proposals to:
- Relocate Talbot School into new accommodation adjacent to Newfield School
- Relocate Woolley Wood School into new accommodation adjacent to Mansel Primary School
- Close East Hill Secondary and Oakes Park Schools to create a new Secondary Specialist SEN School adjacent to All Saints Catholic High School
- Redevelop a new Transition (KS3) and Graduation (KS4) Pupil Referral Service base at Spring Lane
- Redevelop a new Bents Green School 11-16 on the Ringinglow Road campus and create new 16-19 provision adjacent to other post 16 educational provision
This programme for change will create a range of provision, which groups the Specialist SEN Schools into four categories:
- Learning Difficulties and Complex Needs - Norfolk Park/Woolley Wood/Talbot/New SEN All Saints
- Norfolk Park/Woolley Wood/Talbot/New SEN All Saints
- Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Communication Interaction - Mossbrook/Rowan/Bents Green
- Mossbrook/Rowan/Bents Green
- Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties - Heritage Park/Holgate Meadow

- Hospital School - Oakwood/Shirle Hill
